Dominique Clothiaux RCST

Dominique Clothiaux has studied Functional and Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy since 2005 and is a Registered Craniosacral Therapist® with the Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy Association of North America. She offers Manual Therapy to release deep tensions around the central nervous system. Her work gently enhances and restores wellbeing in both physical and emotional health. Dominique is intrigued with the dance between living physiology and the body’s innate ability to access its own Inherent / Primal Healing processes. Trusting the physiological ‘Fluid Tides’ is paramount to Dominique’s approach to bodywork. She has been teaching since 2010 and is an Approved Continuing Education Provider with the National Certification Board of Massage and Bodywork.

She is also a Certified Live-Birth Doula authorized by DONA International, a Pre and Perinatal Birth Educator through The Kutenai Institute of Integral Therapies, and Student Midwife of the Academy of Experiential Midwifery Education. She has been supporting birth since 2008 and is currently Charlottesville’s only Certified Massage Doula. Her journey as a birth worker is a natural extension of Biodynamics. Through her work she hopes to protect the sanctity of physiological birth and to help foster the understanding and importance about the Primal Health Period. She offers both prenatal, birth, and postpartum support.

As a certified Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist, Dominique incorporates BCST into her doula care and also offers individual sessions to infants through adults.

Dominique’s personal journey has been about healing the psyche around trauma centered on the pre and perinatal time period within her own life. She ran away to India at the age of 18 and choose to devote her life for the betterment of humanity. She spent the better part of her 20’s long distance backpacking with ‘Marvin the Wonder Dog’ where they covered over 5,000 miles in the backcountry in the US of A together. She was raised in the Lakota/Dakota traditions and dreams of one day handing back the art of midwifery to her star family. Her formal education is centered on understanding the dance between the living physiology, central nervous system function, and neuroscience. Her entire life has secretly been preparing her to be a Midwife. Outside of studying the living physiology of Birth and Biodynamics she enjoys being with horses and is an avid abstract painter. She has maintained a devoted yoga, prayer and meditation practice since 1997.

Practice Philosophy

Very few healing systems have such as complete impact on the nervous system as Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy. Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a type of Somatic Therapy which encourages the “communication” of experience between the mind and the body, allowing greater understanding of the issues and enabling sustainable movement towards greater health and wellbeing. Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is also a type of Manual Therapy that Calms/Balances the Nervous System while rearranging the physical structure. It does this by slowing down the nervous system, which permits self correction to the physiology, by quieting what is over whelming. The main purpose of my bodywork is to release deep tensions centered around the central nervous system. All my sessions are centered on Stillness and supporting physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. As a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist I am trained to work with trauma, degenerative nerve disorders, auto-immune diseases, chronic pain and chronic stress/depression.

My journey as a birth worker is a natural extension of Biodynamics. Birth and Biodynamics is the study of the living physiology. The field of Pre and Perinatal Psychology has been the bridge between these two fields of study and deeply honors the connection Biodynamic Craniosacral philosophy can provide in the preparation and act of birth. Quality of prenatal care has a vast affect on birth outcomes. The best prenatal care includes one that addressed both the physical and emotional well being of the mother. It is, together we can make birth an empowering experience, one that will carry you successfully into motherhood. What I offer is deep emotional support and coaching through the entire birthing process. My services do not replace your caregivers’ very important role, but rather enhances your experience through loving continual support.
