Roe vs Wade Decision

I’m sure you’ve heard the news: The Supreme Court of the United States overturned Roe v. Wade. What does this mean? It means that states can decide what, if any, restrictions they want to place on abortion. Unfortunately, it means that abortion can be banned too. I am outraged, sad, and beyond disappointed that our highest court in the land made such an impactful decision that will harm the lives of many women and their families. The truth is that allowing states to ban abortions doesn’t stop abortions. It bans safe abortions. These kinds of political decisions are exactly the reason I choose to be an independent out-of-hospital midwife. While I am pro-family and pro-life, I am also pro-choice. Women deserve to make their own reproductive health care decisions that are right for them.

I stand in solidarity with all women, all choices, all indigenous lands and ways of living, all black and brown people. The idea of dictating the freedom of a persons rights comes from colonizers the root of systematic prejudice and racism. I choose not to participate. This is why I choose not to be a part of a hospital based system. I choose to work safely in the out-side of the system. I pray you are all safe and well. Please know that if you need an ally I am here to support you.
